Application for long term mobility of researchers are submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Department by a research organization in Cyprus for third country nationals who are holders of a valid residence permit, issued by a First Member State, other than the Republic of Cyprus, and who intend to stay in order to carry out part of their research in any research organization in Cyprus for more than 180 days.

The application for long term mobility has to include the transmission of the following documents and information:

(a) a valid residence permit issued by the first Member State;

(b) a valid travel document with the shortest duration of validity from the following:
    (i) a validity that covers at least the duration of the intended stay or,
    (ii) at least 2 years from the date of submission of the application, 
(c) evidence that the researcher has sickness insurance for all the risks normally covered for Cypriot nationals,

(d) evidence that during the stay the researcher will have sufficient resources to cover subsistence costs without having recourse to the social assistance system of Cyprus, as well as the travel costs to the first Member State,

(e) the hosting agreement concluded with the research organization in Cyprus,

(f) the planned duration and dates of the mobility,
 
(g) the address of the researcher concerned in Cyprus.      

All supporting documents and information shall be submitted in Greek or English language.   

The Civil Registry and Migration Department shall take a decision on the application for long-term mobility and notify the decision to the applicant in writing as soon as possible, but not later than 90 days from the date on which the complete application was submitted.

Researchers shall not be required to leave the territory of Cyprus, or of another member state in order to submit an application for long term mobility and shall not be subject to a visa requirement.

Researchers shall be allowed to carry out part of the research in the research organization in Cyprus until a decision on the application for long-term mobility has been taken by the Civil registry and Migration Department.

Researchers, who are considered to pose a threat to public policy, public security or public health, shall not be allowed to enter or to stay on the territory of Cyprus as a second member state.

When the Civil Registry and Migration Department takes a positive decision on the application for long-term mobility, the researcher shall be issued a long term mobility residence permit and the Department informs the competent authorities of the first Member State.
