For the entry of a third-country national for the purpose of employment in a drilling company for a period over six months, obtaining an entry permit is required. Upon the arrival of the third-country national in the Republic, a residence and employment permit shall be issued.

    Procedure
    • The applications, together with the required documents as mentioned in the relevant list of supporting documents, are submitted only by the employer to the Department's offices in Nicosia. To find out whether an appointment is needed follow this link.
    • All supporting documents submitted with the applications must be officially translated and duly certified/certified.
    • Applications that are not accompanied by all the necessary supporting documents will not be accepted for examination.
    • For the submission of the application, the necessary fees must also be submitted, as listed below.
    • After the arrival of the third country national to Cyprus and in order to apply for a temporary residence and employment permit, it is necessary the third country national to provide their biometric data (photo and fingerprints) and signature, with the presentation of the payment receipt and a valid travel document. The biometric data can be provided at the same time as the submission of the application or shortly after, at the District Immigration Unit of the Cyprus Police of the district of residence of the third country national.
    • In case of approval of the application, a notice of collection of the residence permit is sent.
    • In case of rejection, a letter is sent with the reasons for the rejection.
    Renewal of a residence permit
    It is possible to renew the residence permit by submitting an application and the necessary accompanying documents each time. Fees must also be submitted, as listed below.

    Fees

    Issuance of an entry permit and a residence permit: €120
    Renewal of a residence permit: €130
    Registration in the Aliens’ Register (only in cases of first registration): €70
    Examination time
    The examination time for an entry permit is approximately 3 weeks and 3 more weeks for the examination of the residence application after biometrics are provided. This timeframe does not apply if the information or documents submitted in the application are insufficient. In such a case, the examination time is increased.
    Duration of entry permit and residence permit
    The entry permit issued must be used for arrival within the period indicated on it. The entry permit allows residence for a period not exceeding three months, which is indicated on the permit. The residence permit issued is based on the approval of the Department of Labour.

    Maximum duration of stay

    There is no restriction on the maximum allowed duration of stay, provided that a residence and employment permit is obtained.
