• The certificates are issued by the Cypriot authorities and are a confirmation that no marriage has taken place in the Republic pursuant to the marriage law, that no religious marriage has been declared and that no valid Civil Union has taken place.
  • The issuance of non impediment certificate is governed by the Marriage and Civil Cohabitation Laws.
  • The Cypriot authorities issue a certificate for Cypriot citizens and third country nationals residing in Cyprus. For EU citizens no certificate is issued by the Cypriot authorities.
  • The application is submitted at the application submission offices.
  • The application must be accompanied by the necessary accompanying documents which are recorded in the status of accompanying documents. All accompanying documents submitted as part of applications must be officially translated and duly certified/authenticated.
  • The application fee amounts to €34.17 for each person.
  • The physical presence of both parties is required for the submission of an application.
Office which issues the non-Impediment Certificate
  • The non-Impediment Certificate is issued by the Civil Registry and Migration Department by submitting the following documents and payment of the relevant fee.
  • For the submission of the application and the issuance of the above mentioned certificate it is necessary that applicants appear personally in Civil Registry and Migration Department.
  • Cypriots who live abroad should apply through the Embassies/Consulates of the Republic of Cyprus.
Documents required for application for non-marriage certificate
Cypriot citizens
  • Completed application form signed by the applicant.
  • Passport or civil identity card.
  • Affidavit that clearly describes his marital status (single/ divorced/widow). In case of divorce or widowhood must be stated that the applicant has not been married since the divorce/death of his spouse. The Affidavit should also state the name of the person with whom he intends to get married.
Also in case of divorce:
  • A final divorce from the Family Court, after spending 42 days from the issue or
  • Religious divorce from the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus if it was before 1990.
  • Also in the event of widowhood, death certificate of his spouse by District Administration.
  • € 34,17 fee for examination of the above mentioned application and issue the relevant certificate.
Third Country nationals
  • Completed application form signed by the applicant.
  • Temporary residence permit the validity of which should not be less than one month the day of the application for a non-Impediment Certificate. If the validity of Temporary residence permit is less than a month (even one day) the applicant must submit receipt of payment of a new application for a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Affidavit that clearly describes his marital status (single/ divorced/widow). In case of divorce or widowhood must be stated that the applicant has not been married since the divorce/death of his spouse. The Affidavit should also state the name of the person with whom he intends to get married.
  • Non-Impediment Certificate from the competent authority of the country of origin of the applicant with an official translation into Greek/English and duly certified.
  • In case of divorce, a divorce certificate (final) with an official translation into Greek or English and duly certified.
  • In the event of widowhood, death certificate of his spouse with an official translation into Greek or English and duly certified.
  • Valid passport.
  • € 34,17 fee for examination of the above mentioned application and issue the relevant certificate.
EU citizens
  • Completed application form signed by the applicant.
  • Registration Certificate.
  • Affidavit that clearly describes his marital status (single/ divorced/widow). In case of divorce or widowhood must be stated that the applicant has not been married since the divorce/death of his spouse. The Affidavit should also state the name of the person with whom he intends to get married.
  • Valid passport.
  • Non-Impediment Certificate from the competent authority in the country with an official translation into Greek/ English and duly certified.
  • In case of divorce, a divorce certificate (final) with an official translation into Greek/English and duly certified.
  • In the event of widowhood, death certificate of his spouse translated into Greek/English and duly certified.
  • €34,17 fee for examination of the said application and issue the relevant certificate.
Ukraine
  • He/she should obtain a non-Impediment Certificate or confirmation, issued by the local authority of his/her residence
  • This document must be faxed to the Embassy of Ukraine in Cyprus
  • The Consular Affairs Office of the Ukrainian Embassy will issue, sign and stamp a Certificate of Marriage non-impediment Certificate, which should be presented together with the faxed document, when the applicant decides to submit his/her application to the CRMD.
BREXIT
Following BREXIT, British nationals should submit a non-impediment certificate (CNI) issued by the General Register Office and not from the British High Commission in the Republic of Cyprus, which shall be duly certified/authenticated (APOSTILLE).

A non-impediment certificate issued by the Republic of Cyprus competent Authorities, is not required for:
  • EU citizens (other than Cypriot citizens) who enter the Republic for tourist purposes to conduct a marriage between them (Marriage Tour Package).
  • Third country nationals who enter the Republic for tourist purposes to conduct a marriage between them (Marriage Tour Package).
